Weird Food Wednesday – HAKARL

Okay y’all, hold on to your breakfast, this one is going to blow your mind, if not your chunks. Anthony Bourdain described it as “the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing” he’d tried, and he pretty much tried everything, so I’ll take his word for it.

Hakarl is the rotting carcass of a Greenland Shark that is buried underground, covered with stones so that the poisonous fluids can be drained from it’s body. (You would think that would be enough to stop people from eating it?) After which it is hung and dried so that it can be cut into strips. The smell is described as ammonia and fishy.

Yep, we’ll pass.
